John (Jay) McCauley, Esq.
| Mr. McCauley is a full-time Mediator and Arbitrator, and an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine University School of Law. He came to this profession nearly 10 years ago from a background as a Harvard Law educated, AV rated, "Big Firm" trial and appellate advocate, handling complex, and sometimes precedent-making, commercial, employment, and real property matters including class actions. As a neutral, he has a reputation as a "quick study," able to use his broad legal background and his analytic abilities to find simplicity and bring conceptual organization to seemingly complicated disputes, and has been entrusted with resolving hundreds of such matters throughout the state, including multiple matters ranging in value from10 million to100 million. He finds special satisfaction in finding options to resolve cases thought to be intractable. An attorney representing a party in one such case recently wrote, "What a surprise!" then went on to express "thanks and congratulations on a settlement I certainly would never have expected to occur." Mr. McCauley has written and spoken extensively on the topic of negotiation dynamics in challenging cases and his efforts have brought recognition from his peers; he is listed in Best Lawyers in America for Alternative Dispute Resolution and in the Martindale-Hubbell Register of Preeminent Lawyers and is a member at the California Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and a fellow of the highly selective International Academy of Mediators. |
