SAN DIEGO, Calif.; Dec. 19, 2018 – Judicate West, one of California’s leading providers of private dispute resolution services, welcomes retired United States Magistrate Judge Jan M. Adler to its roster of neutrals.

Judge Adler has 40+ years of legal experience, including serving as a Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of California for over 15 years and as Presiding Magistrate Judge the last two years. During his time on the bench, he handled a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including employment, intellectual property, class action, insurance bad faith, consumer fraud and personal injury cases. Prior to his bench appointment, Judge Adler spent 25 years as a trial lawyer litigating complex civil matters, including securities class action, derivative, antitrust and consumer fraud cases.

Judge Adler is a frequent speaker on ADR topics in the United States and abroad, most recently delivering the opening address at the Sorbonne Winter Conference on ADR, Mediation and Negotiation Management in Paris, France in November. He served as a Ninth Circuit Director for the Federal Magistrate Judges Association from 2014 to 2018 and as Vice Chair of the Ninth Circuit Magistrate Judges Executive Board from 2014 to 2016. He was a member of the Board of Governors for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (ABTL) of San Diego for several years, and served as President of the San Diego chapter in 2007 and Vice President in 2006. Judge Adler earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law (1978) and his A.B. from Cornell University (1975).
