Retired Court of Appeal Justice

Since 1987, Justice Lewis has been a full time neutral, serving as an Arbitrator, Mediator and Private Judge. He retired from the Fourth District Court where he served for several years. Before the unification of the courts, he sat both on the Municipal and Superior Courts in San Diego County. Justice Lewis was in private practice specializing in complex civil litigation and also served as City Attorney for many years. He eventually got his own trail department where he instituted a case-management system known as the independent calendar system. In the private sector, his areas of expertise include Corporate and Business Disputes, Intellectual Property, Complex Commercial Litigation and Insurance Coverage matters. One attorney commented, “He is very strong, knows the law and tends to be no non-sense” As an Arbitrator many attorneys have said he handles very sophisticated and complex legal issues without any difficulty and works hard in preparing for a hearing. As a Mediator one attorney stated, “he gets to the problem at hand, does not waste time and is very efficient.”
