After 30 years as a civil trial lawyer in cases involving professional liability, general liability, insurance litigation and other significant tort claims and years as a claims representative, Mr. Handweiler has made the transition from trial attorney to full time mediator/arbitrator. In addition to years of service as a Pro-Tem for the Orange County Superior Court and Mediator on the Los Angeles County Superior Court panel, Mr. Handweiler has received mediation training at the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution and has effectively and successfully mediated and arbitrated thousands of matters in almost every type of injury dispute. One litigator, who was impressed with Mr. Handweiler as a mediator, used him again as an arbitrator and said "I was equally as impressed as his decision was sound, concise and addressed all the relevant issues raised by the parties. Both sides' clients were very impressed with how he handled it and the result was fair." Another attorney commented, "He is a consummate professional who knows the law and has experience with all types of cases."
Mr. Handweiler is a spectator of almost all type sports. He enjoys running, reading, travel and finance.
Well prepared, knowledgeable of attorneys involved and this negotiation styles.
- Attorney on a Medical Malpractice Dispute
I would like to commend Martin Handweiler for a fantastic job in getting our case
resolved. Marty was relentless and was determined that this case would resolve.
He worked hard throughout the day and into the night. His calm demeanor, his
unending patience, his pragmatic approach and his knowledge of the case and
the intricate medical issues involved, were all factors in getting this case
resolved. It is always a pleasure to mediate with Marty. He is a credit to Judicate West.
- Prominent Defense Attorney, Los Angeles, CA
I have used Martin on several occasions and I find his work to be the finest of any mediator
that I have ever seen. Martin is very impressive with how manages a lot of the ego we see
often, and he really sticks with a case when others would give up. His communication and
knack for bringing the lawyers in together at the perfect or giving them space and time
when needed is outstanding. And he is always a gentlemen throughout the whole process.
